1 Piece Scope Mounts
Sportsmatch offer a range of 1 piece scope mounts for dovetails and picatinny rails. Various heights and tube sizes are available to choose from. Recent additions to the range include our QD (quick detachable) models which were developed in conjunction with Mark Ripley (260 RIPS) of youtube fame. The QD models also include an integral bubble level and standard nuts which can be used instead of the QD levers if required.
What are the benefits of a 1 piece scope mount?
One piece scope mounts have a larger clamping area than 2 piece mounts so are particularly suited to heavy recoiling rifles and spring piston air rifles. The 1 piece design also ensures that the rings at each end of the mount are perfectly aligned which is an advantage for precision shooting.
What are the disadvantages of a 1 piece scope mount?
Firstly the mount will be heavier than a 2 piece version. This rarely causes a major problem but something to be considered if the weight of your rifle is a concern. The distance between the rings is fixed unlike a a 2 piece mount, this may not suit certain rifle / scope combinations. Generally each ring should be as close to each end of the scope as possible (as far apart as possible) This is the most stable way to mount a scope and is an important consideration when mounting a scope.
Shooters in different parts of the world often refer to 1 piece scope mounts with different names such as monomount, unimount and single mount but these are all the same thing. Some 1 piece mounts are a cantilever or extended design. This is normally to increase or reduce the eye relief (distance from scope to eye).
What rifles can a 1 piece mount be used on ?
If possible we would advise mounting your scope using a 1 piece scope mount. However not all types of air rifle or rifle allow this as the loading port on bolt action rifles and PCP air rifles can be obscured causing cartridge case extraction problems. One way to overcome this is to fit a raised 1 piece picatinny rail to such rifles.
Different types of 1 piece mount
One piece monomounts are available in all the common rifle scope tube diameters such as 1”, 30mm and lately 34mm. The smallest available scope size is 1” (25.4mm) but people often refer to this as 25mm. The most common size of one piece scope mount is 1” diameter and for 11mm dovetails but Picatinny models are becoming more popular. Adjustable models, single screw and double screw models and models with recoil arrestor pins are all widely available. Different heights are also available depending on the diameter of your scopes objective lens, low for upto 32mm, medium for upto 45mm and high for upto 56mm objective lens diameter.
