British Engineering You Can Actually Feel

There’s a particular kind of confidence that comes from knowing the part connecting your scope to your rifle was made properly.

Not assembled from mixed components. Not produced to the lowest acceptable tolerance. Properly engineered, machined, checked, and finished in Britain by a company that has been refining the same process for over five decades.

Sportsmatch began because John Ford, a keen shooter with a background in motor sport design and engineering was tired of mounts that moved. He didn’t set out to create a lifestyle brand. He set out to produce scope rings that held zero under heavy recoil and remained affordable enough for ordinary shooters to use. That practical starting point still shapes everything the company does.

Today the range covers dovetail and Picatinny rings, one-piece and two-piece designs, different heights and tube diameters.  Useful accessories such as spirit levels and adapter rails were later added to the range.  Every component is produced on modern CNC machinery and then inspected by hand before assembly. The result is a mount that seats cleanly, clamps evenly, and stays where it is put.

The lifetime guarantee is not a marketing flourish. It is a statement of how the product is expected to perform. When a company is prepared to stand behind every mount it makes for the life of the product, the engineering has to justify that promise.

Shooters often focus on the scope, the barrel or the trigger. Those parts matter. But the mount is the silent link that either protects their performance or quietly undermines it. A rigid, correctly aligned mount allows the rest of the system to deliver what it was designed to deliver. An indifferent mount introduces variables that no amount of scope adjustment can fully eliminate.

In an industry that sometimes prioritises novelty, there is still value in a company that simply does one job extremely well and keeps doing it. Sportsmatch mounts are used by military and police units, competition shooters and professional pest controllers for a straightforward reason: they hold zero and they last.

If you want the quiet confidence that comes from British-made engineering that was designed by a shooter for shooters, the answer has been the same for more than fifty years.

Height of Scope Mount Required

In each product catergory we state a maximum (upto) objective lens diameter dimension. Due to both rifle and scope designs varying this can only be used as a guide. If you are unsure that the height of the Sportsmatch scope mount you have chosen will be sufficient to clear your rifle scopes objective lens from the barrel of your rifle, we suggest (prior to purchase) you check. The way you calculate the clearance is by halving the overall outside diameter of your rifle scopes objective lens and then deducting half the rifle scopes body tube diameter. For scopes with a 1″ inch diameter body tube diameter this would mean deducting 12.7mm, 15mm for scopes with a 30mm diameter body tube and 17mm for 34mm scopes. This dimension then gives the figure comparible with the ‘A’ dimension that is shown below. The amount our ‘A’ dimension is greater than the figure you have calculated is the amount of clearance your scopes objective lens will be clear of your rifles barrel (dont forget to allow around 2mm for the scope covers). Calculating your rifle scopes clearance in this way does assume your dovetail or Picatinny rail is not raised above or below your rifles barrel. Please consider that rifles with grooved receivers such as some models of airgun and .22 rimfire rifle will mean the scope sits lower than a rifle with a raised dovetail or Picatinny base fitted. Something else to consider is that some rifles with a high or adjustable cheek pieces may require high or extra scope mounts so that your eye is in line with the rifle scope and your head is kept in an upright comfortable position.
